The keyboard

The keyboard is the clearest map of the twelve notes there is: the black keys come in groups of two and three, and that pattern is what lets you find your way. C is always immediately left of the group of two black keys; F immediately left of the group of three. With those two landmarks you can find any note without counting from the start, and you can see at a glance why there is no black key between E and F, or between B and C.
