AstraMentisTerms of use
Short version: this is a learning app offered as is by one person. Everything is open for 21 days; after that, five chess puzzles a day stay free and the rest needs a subscription. Use it kindly, keep your account to yourself, and know that the content you add is yours.
The service
AstraMentis serves learning cards adapted to your level. It is offered free of charge, without any guarantee of availability, accuracy or fitness for a purpose. The operator may change, pause or stop the service at any time; if it stops, you will have at least 30 days' notice and the export button to take your data.
Your account
Anyone can create an account; invitations still exist to open your library to a friend. You are responsible for your password and for what happens under your account. One person, one account. Do not share your session, scrape the service, try to reach other people's data, or overload it. Accounts that do so, or that are used to harass others, can be closed.
You must be at least 16 years old. There is no exception with a parent's or guardian's permission: below sixteen, the account is removed.
Content
The code of AstraMentis and the content written for it —exercises, lessons, explanations, the ladder of each area— are the property of the operator, all rights reserved. Your subscription lets you use the app; it grants you no licence to copy, republish or redistribute that content. Third-party content keeps its own license and is unaffected by this: Lichess puzzles (CC0), Project Gutenberg texts (public domain in the United States; check your country), the kanji stroke data from KanjiVG (CC BY-SA 3.0), and open recordings from Wikimedia Commons (each under the licence its own file declares). Every source is listed with its exact licence at /creditos. Linked references belong to their authors.
What you write (notes, collections, wishes) stays yours. By sharing a collection you grant the people you share it with the right to read it inside the app; you can revoke that at any time. Do not add content you have no right to share or that is illegal, hateful or harassing.
Recordings, images and texts brought in from open catalogues are admitted one file at a time, and only when the file itself states its licence and says who made it: a recording that does not say who performs it is not served, because the rights over a recording expire separately from the rights over the work. Even so, mistakes are possible, and an upload to an open catalogue can turn out not to have been the uploader's to make. If anything here is yours and should not be, write to the operator and it is taken down on the first claim, without arguing about it and before any discussion of whether the claim is right. Payments
Everything is open for 21 days from the moment you create your account. After that, five chess puzzles a day remain free, with no time limit and no payment, and the rest of the app requires a subscription: €6.99 a month or €49.99 a year. The subscription adds no features — it is what keeps the app open.
There is a reduced price, €2.99 a month or €29.99 a year, for anyone studying or who cannot afford the full price right now. It is the same subscription in every respect. Nothing is checked and no proof is asked for: you choose it yourself when you pay, and it stays at that price until you cancel. Taking it when you do not need it takes it from someone who does.
The subscription is sold by the operator and charged by card through Stripe, which handles the payment. Prices are shown with VAT included. You manage and cancel it from your profile (“Manage or cancel the subscription”), at any time, with effect at the end of the period already paid. The operator never sees your card. For a refund, write to the operator; if the service was unavailable for a substantial part of a paid period, that period is refunded.
Because the service starts as soon as you pay, you agree at checkout that it begins immediately and you waive the 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts (in Sweden, distansavtalslagen; in the EU, the Consumer Rights Directive). If the service is unavailable for a substantial part of a paid period, write to the operator.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for damages arising from using or being unable to use the service, including lost data or progress. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for intent or gross negligence.
Ending
You can delete your account whenever you want from your profile. The operator can close accounts that break these terms after telling you why, except in cases of abuse that require immediate action.
Law and changes
These terms are governed by Swedish law, without prejudice to the consumer protections of the country where you live. If you are a consumer and we cannot settle a complaint between us, you can turn to the Swedish National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN, arn.se). If they change materially, the date at the top changes and the new text is shown in the app; continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
